Lush Superdad Bath Bomb Review

Good evening, dear readers!

Today I have another Lush product to review from the Father's Day 2016 lineup (which was kindly sent to me for review!).

This is for Superdad, a bath bomb that retails at $7.95 Can. for 150g..

From Lush:
"For real-life heroes
Not all superheroes wear capes—in fact, some of them prefer to hop in the tub to recharge their superpowers! Superdad’s sandalwood and olibanum oils release a woody, earthy scent the moment you drop it in the water. This subtly smoky-sweet aroma fills your bathroom, creating the perfect sanctuary for unwinding and relaxing. Pop this bomb into your bath water and lie back as its bright colors fizz and swirl around you, then emerge ready to take on the world." - Lush.ca

Here are the ingredients:
Sodium Bicarbonate , Citric Acid , Cream of Tartar (Potassium bitartrate) , Fragrance , Sandalwood Oil (Santalum austro-caledonicum vieill) , Guaiacwood Oil (Bulnesia Sarmientoi) , Olibanum Oil (Boswella Carterii) , Sodium Laureth Sulfate , Lauryl Betaine , *Limonene , *Linalool , Coumarin , Hydroxycitronellal , Lilial , Rosie Red Lustre (Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Red 7) , Corn Starch (Zea Mays) , Blue 1 Lake , Blue 1 , Red 4 , Yellow 10 . *Occurs naturally in essential oils

This bathbomb is nice!!  The fragrance (to me) is much lovelier once it's in the bath water, releasing more of the woody notes and it is earthy and relaxing.  I do like some woodsy earthy scents but I can be particular about them.  I wasn't as keen on the fragrance of this when it was dry (a part of that was probably because I kept the bath bomb in my bedroom for an evening and it's fragrance got a bit overwhelming to me after smelling it for a while) but in the water I enjoyed it much more!!  I also find it has a moderate throw so it isn't a quiet fragrance.  It's not super loud (it seems strange to me to describe a scent as I would a sound) but it's definitely noticeable.  However, I didn't notice it on my skin much after the bath.

(Right after I put it in the water, and it's upside-down here.  The lighting in the bathroom is more yellow and the tub we have is a cream colour, so the water looks kind of pink here even though it was clear.)

Zoom!  It looks like an alien creature moving across the surface.

The, uhh, only big unfortunate thing about this bath bomb is the middle part where the yellow and red portions start to dissolve and it looks particularly unsavory to me... but the blue part is lovely!! :D

I can't remember if this was still upside down at the beginning or if this was after the red and yellow portions dissolved.

Here was at around 5 minutes or so.

Here was at around 15 or so minutes of the bath bomb being in the tub (please excuse the nail polish!)

The water turned almost the same colour as Lush's Whoosh shower jelly, maybe a tad bit lighter.  I don't have photos of the water after the product fully dissolved, but it was a lovely colour and the water was more pigmented than I had expected.

One of the most surprising things to me about this product was the fact that in the slightly warm bathwater I used (not hot but not cold), it took around 15-20ish minutes (easily!!) for the entire bath bomb to dissolve!  That's unheard of to me.  I don't know if I've ever used a bath bomb that lasted that long and I didn't know any could last that long!  I wonder if the water temperature played a part in it, but it was quite the surprise!

This was a really nice product to use.  It made the water very smooth and soft to the touch and the fragrance blossomed once it was dissolving into the water.  I definitely think this could be broken into two pieces and used for two baths.  It was also raining today where I am, and I think this is a really lovely bath bomb to use for a rainy (literally!) day.  It definitely added to that calm feeling that I find rain gives me.

I'm glad that I was able to use this product!  If you get a chance to try this out, please feel free to let me know your thoughts on it in the comments below! : D

Have a wonderful and relaxing evening!

-Ashley
